»Amit Ranjan in Chapter 4 discusses the plight of the women raped during the Liberation War. Despite the Bangladesh State’s efforts to settle them, many of them were not “entirely accepted” by the society.«

»A large number of women are “silenced” victims of any inter-group violence, conflict and war. They are asked to remain silent by their family members or “own” group or prefer to remain so about the physical violence and rape they faced because they are burdened with holding up the “honour” of their family and community. The number of women raped during the Bangladesh Liberation War varies from one source to another. However, it is estimated that between 200,000 and 400,000 women were raped. Most of the women raped were Bengali speaking; however, a few Urdu-speaking women were also raped during the war. After the end of the Liberation War, many women were apprehensive about their future in the new society; a small number of raped women even preferred to leave the country.«
